Swimsuit Slim Down

The Early Bird Gets the Worm  Bikini-Body
At this very moment, it is snowing... and I am freezing! But, that doesn't mean that my mind isn't focused on getting a beach-ready body! Starting a healthy eating and exercise regimen well before the summer months gives me a little breathing room - which I love! I hate the "pressure" that swim suit season brings, and I certainly don't want to embrace crash dieting just to shed a couple of pounds before a day by the pool. So, I'm starting now - you should too!

Your Secret Swimsuit Weapon
I don't know about you guys, but I love Dr. Oz. His show is so informative, and is always packed with healthy little tips and tricks! I feel like his advice is my secret fitness weapon - I take it and run with it! 

Unlike other "detox" drinks, the Dr. Oz Swimsuit Slimdown Drink is tasty, awesome, and actually works. Plus, you can whip it up using ingredients that you probably already have laying around your kitchen!

Here's What You'll Need:
  • 1 Cup Grapefruit Juice
  • 2 Tsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp. honey
How it Works
Apple cider vinegar is a known fat-burner - it helps to break down fat cells, and encourages proper digestion. Just drink it three times per day before every meal, and watch as the fat melts off!

      Since this is a Dr. Oz recipe, and now my own, I really don't know if it would work with another juice. However, I don't see why it couldn't! Perhaps if you tried it with blueberry juice, pomegranate juice, or another high-oxidizing juice, the results would be the same. Give it a try and let me know how it goes! I'm curious too :)

    2. It says on the front page with the picture grapefruit or orange juice. I bought oj today and am going to try it with that because I cannot drink grapefruit juice as well , will let you know if any weight drops off.

    5. I cant drink grapefruit juice either, I am trying with pineapple juice, can I drink it before running too? I usually jog and walk, 5 miles a day, can't wait to see results.

    6. Dr. Oz writes that grapefruit juice contains Albedo, which helps break down cancer causing agents in the body. It's the vinegar that breaks down the fat so as long as that is included any juice to replace grapefruit would probably be fine, just so it tasted good. :o)

  2. It will work with Orange juice or pineapple juice but it need to be natural what makes u lose weight is the citrus that this fruits contains that there are grapefruit , pineapple , and Orange

    2. I would think you could just take the honey, and drink the vinegar and juice. However, I have a feeling the honey might make the mixture taste better. My problem is stopping with just 1 tsp of honey. Love it!

    14. I found you have to let the mixture sit for a few minutes for the honey to melt - stir a few times in between and the honey finally does melt....take about 1/2 hour before meals to have this happen

    7. I mix the vinegar and the honey before putting it into the juice. This helps it mix a tad bit better!

    8. I talked to a guy who makes honey and he says to set the honey in sunlight for abt. 30 minutes, never heat in microwave or put in hot water this will kill all the benefits of the honey, also your store bought honey is pasteurized so it has no benefits, need to buy raw unpasteurized.

    1. Hello! I don't see why it wouldn't be, but to be sure, you might want to run it past your doctor. Everything in it is natural, so there shouldn't be any issues! But, when it comes to breastfeeding, better to be safe than sorry! Good luck :)

    1. I love this drink! It makes me feel "full" before I start eating so that I don't end up over-indulging, and I've noticed a huge boost in my energy since I've started drinking it. I think this will be something I do all year round :)

      After the holidays, I got a little off track (like everyone else!), so to get back on the healthy bandwagon, I am doing my 5-Day Turkey, Berry & Yogurt Diet (http://thekatechroniclesblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/5-day-turkey-berry-yogurt-diet.html) to cleanse my body of all of those gross toxins. That, combined with this drink, is making me feel incredible!

  8. I just read over your 5 day Turkey detox. If I read correctly, it stated no juices. By reading your comments here, it seems you are drinking this mixture with the turkey diet.....if that correct? Is this fine to drink with the turkey diet?

      Thanks for checking our the 5-Day Turkey, Berry & Yogurt diet! Yes, I do state that no juice is to be consumed while following that diet. By that I mean, that the only thing you are to be drinking is water with your meals. Since this is a separate detox diet, I am combining the two. However, I am continuing to drink ONLY water with every meal. Sorry for the confusion! :)

      I'm not sure if grapefruit juice is safe to consume while taking a statin drug. To be sure, I'd ask your physician - he or she should be able to give you the best answer!

    2. Grapefruit juice contains enzymes that can interact with certain medications like simvastatin by slowing down your body’s ability to metabolize them.

      This means it will take longer for your body to get rid of the simvastatin when you drink grapefruit juice, which can potentially lead to having too much simvastatin in your body. This can lead to more side effects, like muscle pains.

      This interaction does not happen with all the statins. For instance, there is no interaction between grapefruit juice and pravastatin, found in Pravachol.

    1. When I drink it, I feel very "full" so, I don't eat as much as I normally would. Plus, it greatly reduces belly bloat and makes me feel all-around "better." So, yes, I'd say that I've seen awesome results :)

  11. Be careful drinking grapefruit juice when your taking cholesterol medicine! Drinking grapefruit juice with some statins can be dangerous. Check with your Dr. first!!!

    5. I have been loving it. The main thing is that it's speeding up my metabolism. I'm not sure on the whole breaking down fat thing, I know the cider/vinegar does but to a point. The main thing is it's helping my digestion process. I'm hungry all of the time now. It's flushing water out of me like crazy. It's a supplement for me, not a crazy diet thing.

    7. I personally am very skeptical of things like this being posted saying try this, you'll lose weight, etc. HOWEVER...the apple cider is the key. The juice is for the vitamin C as studies were done and people who lost more weight had higher levels of vitamin c in their diets. The apple cider helps the weight loss...the honey is for the taste if you find the cider too much. I personally know a person and saw her results who would drink a glass of water mixed with apple cider vinegar before every meal, about 30 mins before...and stopped eating after 6 pm. She dropped weight fast...and has kept it off. She also said that she drank the apple cider vinegar with mother in it.

      Also the vinegar is 2 tablespoons, not teaspoons. :)

  14. Actually apple cider vinegar doesn't break down fat cells. Nothing does that except good old fashion exercise. Vinegar has been shown to make people feel fuller thus causing them to eat less.

  20. Okay here's my dilemma-- I've been doing this for a few days now, and staying VERY full. I'm on a strict 1200 calorie diet with lots of exercise, trying to lose weight. This drink is supposed to be helping to BURN calories, BURN fat... should I be counting the calories of the drink into my 1200? I feel like it should pretty much cancel out, however I don't want to go over my 1200 calorie goal.

    HELP!!

    1. if you're counting calories, then every calorie should be counted. thinking it will "cancel out" is the first step on a slippery slope of "it was just a bite, probably only like 10 calories, so it doesn't count", etc etc.

      also: everyone drinking this, please remember that the only thing this drink is good for is to make you feel fuller so you don't over-eat, therefore less caloric intake, therefore lose weight. the mix itself doesn't actually burn anything.

    1. The instructions on the side says 2 tsp but he actually says 2 tbsps. Based off of how much was inside of the little dish that she poured into the grapefruit... it really is 2 tbsps :( lol

  30. I am very sensitive to sugar and find maple syrup more energizing and tends to have little or no spike in my sugar levels. I've tried this with lemons and it gives me energy all day long. Oranges would be way too sweet for me. I get the maple syrup online where one can read the reviews.

    Be careful where you get your honey. The honey sold in most stores are ultra-filtered, heated, contains no pollen, and worse yet, may be diluted with inexpensive high fructose corn syrup, which if you don't know by now, will make you gain weight and is poisonous to your body!

    1. Testimonial: I get married a week from today and began the slimdown this past Tuesday. I am on Day 5 & even at Day 3 I could tell I was losing weight. My face is not puffy, my complexion is great and I have a lot of energy. My stomach and side profile is looking fantastic. It's important for my dress and I look forward to drinking this for the next few days.

      couple notes:
      1. I injured my foot 2 weeks ago and went from a high cardio workout to sporadic strength training. I live in nyc so I walk or bike a ton though.
      2. The first time I tried the juice I could really taste the vinegar. After 1 or 2 days you won't notice it anymore.
      3. I am not as hungry because of the juice so I think that's one reason it works.
      4. I know a lot of this is water weight, but I'd rather be debloated for my wedding than the alternative. Hopefully some of this shape gets retained after I stop, but I'm feeling very confident about my body for the wedding which feels great!
